Spotfire is an analytics platform in which multiple data streams can combine into a visual, interactive dashboard. It’s very popular in the life sciences industry because it enables a user to gain more profound insights into her data. When analytics are set up, huge processes spanning multiple people and automated stations can be summarized with interactive graphics. Spotfire gives users the ability to report information and discover insights; however, getting data into Spotfire in a useful format is not easy.
Spotfire’s powerful features hinge on ingesting data. For scientific data that usefully means streams from multiple people, machines, and systems. One missing piece of data can render the big picture inaccurate, incomplete and ultimately useless. And for all of its capabilities, Spotfire is not a data wrangling tool.

Let’s look at this common use case more closely. Chromatography data is large, unwieldy, and required for regulatory compliance. Scientists spend an average of three hours a week to get their data into a format suitable for Spotfire! This guarantees at least a three-hour delay before chromatography data is viewable.
